This is me

I’m Claire, a multimedia artist based in the north east of Scotland.

Where it began

My background has been varied and not always focused on art.

I went straight from school to Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen and graduated in 2000 with an honours degree in fine art, specialising in printmaking. After graduating, I dabbled in various forms of art until family life took over which meant a break from painting and printmaking. A busy few years flashed past in a blur of nappies, nursery visits and school runs. Observing my children learning as they grew led me to the realisation that I wanted to teach. I completed my teacher training and spent several fulfilling years in a primary classroom surrounded by eager children, and was inspired by their enthusiasm to learn. I was lucky to get the opportunity to teach art for a period and I think this is where I realised that I missed creating for myself and passion had to be embraced once again.

My art

My work focuses on the environment around me and the wild nature of my surroundings. I take pleasure in creating art which depicts the textures, colours and movement of the landscapes and seascapes I see on a daily basis.

My paintings are primarily acrylic with touches of various other media used to create a sense of dimension. I am also in the process of reaching back to my roots as a printmaking graduate, re-visiting once again my fascination of mark making and experimenting with the endless variety of methods in which to produce interesting impressions, finding colours and textures particularly provoking.

It all begins with a passion.
